Meet The Artist
My name is Piper & I’ve been doing floral preservation & resin art for just under a decade.
The core of my work centers on flower preservation, using botanicals I grow or collect then dry in silica sand in order to best maintain their shape & color.
Once dried, the flowers & foliage become the foundation of my artwork. About 70% of what I create consists of three-dimensional “naturescape” lamps. In layered resin pours, I combine dried foliage with realistic cutouts of various birds, dragonflies, butterflies, etc. intended to evoke the feeling of a fleeting moment in nature permanently preserved in each piece. Each layer is cured in a pressure pot to eliminate bubbles & ensure a crystal-clear finish, then mounted on a wooden base in which I add a USB-powered LED light.
Another 20% of my work consists of smaller decorative objects that also incorporate the dried botanicals used in my larger works. These include crystal towers that refract sunlight & scatter rainbow prisms onto nearby surfaces, miniature figurines of birds, cats, dogs & rabbits, decorative butterflies that can be displayed upright on a shelf or mounted on a wall, along with various other functional pieces like bookends & even silverware.
The final 10% is made up of jewelry & is the one category of my work that does not typically incorporate botanical materials. Instead, these pieces focus on natural wood textures & mineral elements as I use slices of black walnut, knobcone pinecone and seashell as the base. Onto these natural surfaces, I add elements like crushed opal, colorful mica powders & gemstone cabochons like lapis lazuli, malachite, tiger’s eye & many others. I finish each one by sealing & stabilizing them with a thin layer of UV resin, creating a smooth, protective finish that enhances the colors & textures of the materials.
Although the final pieces vary in size and form, the process behind them all is similar. At its core, my work is about capturing & preserving moments of natural beauty. By combining dried flowers, wood, minerals & layered resin casting techniques, I strive to create pieces that transform small elements from the natural world into objects that can be displayed, worn, or simply enjoyed in everyday spaces.
